Hybrid Systems

A Hybrid system is ideal for customers who have previously invested in analogue security cameras, and wish to make the most of their investment before buying new HD cameras.

There are two methods to achieve a hybrid system, and Tecton provide options for both.

Option 1 is to use our Liberator recorder. Your existing cameras will plug straight in, and when you're ready, IP HD cameras can take their place. It's a simple and elegant solution.

This is the approach that's taken by many of our customers, and It's clear to see why. The Liberator is a true hybrid design, which means it will record video from BNC connected analogue cameras, alongside network connected cameras, in any combination. A customer can be secure in the knowledge that any camera that needs to replaced, can be substituted for a new model, without compatibility problems.

Option 2 is to use our Servalan network video recorder. To use this option, the analogue camera signals must first be converted to an IP format by a device known as a CODEC. The outputs of the codecs then feed into the Servalan.

This is a good option when upgrading a highly distributed system, such as often found in city centres. Such customers often find they can save large sums of money by converting baseband video fibre optic links, with IP network links. This also makes the transition to using IP cameras somewhat easier, as the required network links are already in situ.

Hybrid systems are perhaps the most common today.

Intelligent and appropriate use of the available technologies can make for highly cost-effective systems, that secure the best value from existing CCTV assets.

Along with every recorder, Tecton supply the necessary software tools to set up a system containing both analogue and IP cameras. These tools allow an engineer to configure the system so that the user doesn't need to worry about the differences in technology.

The system becomes a seamless mix of different video sources, identified by name or number or location, regardless of their type.

For hybrid systems based around our Servalan NVR, Tecton can supply the CODEC* units that convert the analogue video signal into a digital signal, transmitted via IP.

Please call us for more information regarding compatible CODEC units.

* Customers are sometimes confused by the term CODEC, so for the sake of explanation, CODEC is a contraction of CODER-ENCODER, or in other words, a device that converts a signal between two formats.
